Pedagogy for Instruction about Civil Society

Professional development workshop: Pedagogy for Instruction about Civil Society

Presented at ISTR 2022 in Montreal
Watch

The term pedagogy refers to “ the strategy of how educators and consultants teach, in practice and theory” (see https://www.structural-learning.com/post/pedagogy-for-teaching-a-classroom-guide). Common types of pedagogy in higher education include emphasizing
critical thinking, encouraging cultural responsiveness, and using the Socratic method. Please consider sharing some examples of how you use these and other pedagogical techniques in your classroom or consulting as well as any research or theoretical
    papers on civil society pedagogy.

In a world where the geopolitical order is in question, civil society is also questioned. To respond to this occurrence, those of us concerned about the third sector might formulate answers
to the following questions for the proposed workshop: What pedagogy (practices) do we use to educate people about civil society? What pedagogy (practices) have we found effective and ineffective? Do these vary across the globe? How do we judge
their effectiveness? What difference does it make in the lives of students, clients, or the constituents served by nonprofits and NGOs? This session is organized by the ISTR Teaching and Learning Affinity Group.
