Shaping the Future of Nonprofit Data Symposium, June 27 and 28 at American University

Cohosted by the Urban Institute’s Center on Nonprofits and Philanthropy, American University’s School of Public Affairs and the Metropolitan Policy Center at American University

With support from the University of Maryland’s Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership and ARNOVA’s Research Committee

Since 2014, researchers at the Urban Institute have been developing the groundwork for a large-scale Nonprofit Panel Dataset (NPD) project to supplement current data on the US nonprofit sector housed at the National Center for Charitable Statistics. This spring, Prof. Lewis Faulk at American University received funding from the Metropolitan Policy Center and School of Public Affairs at American University to collaborate with Urban on a pilot project to test ideas for the NPD. This Symposium will open discussion to a wider audience. At the Symposium, participants will work together to:
-        Coalesce an overall vision that lays the foundation for funding applications for the near future
-        Determine research questions
-        Determine pilot survey questions
-        Determine sampling methods to support national/multi-local data collection and rigorous analysis
-        Determine partnering logistics
-        Plan linkages between data collection, student learning and community engagement, benefits for community-based organizations, and contributions to scholarship and policy

The Symposium is free, but you will have to pay for your own travel expenses. Please use the link below to register by June 9, 2015. The registration includes additional information about special rate hotels and the Symposium schedule.
