Oonagh Breen


Oonagh Breen is Professor of Law at the Sutherland School of Law, University College Dublin, Ireland. She obtained her doctorate in law (JSD) in comparative nonprofit regulation from Yale Law School in 2006. A regular conference attendee at ISTR since the 2008 Barcelona Conference, she is a frequent presenter and panel chair and in 2014 was invited to serve on ISTR’s Strategy Taskforce.  Breen’s research focuses on issues relating to comparative charity regulation and governance and the role of nonprofit-state collaboration in public policy formation and development.  Her research has been published in such journals as Voluntas, Financial and Accounting Management Journal, Public Law, Non-profit Policy Forum and the International Journal for Not-for-Profit Law.   Breen currently serves as a Board Member of the International Centre for Not-for-Profit Law (ICNL), a member of ARNOVA’s By-Law Committee and is an active member of the European Law Institute (ELI) (serving on the Working Group on the Statement on the European Foundation Statute) and the European Research Network on Philanthropy (ERNOP).
