About the Center
The Centre was established in 2000. It engages in research, education, and dialogue about the Third Sector, nonprofit organisations and voluntary action. Through these activities the Centre seeks to contribute to: (a) the understanding of nonprofit organisations, their emergence, their management and impact on society; (b) the development of managerial knowledge and organisational leadership in nonprofit organisations; (c) the facilitation of dialogue concerning the role and support of nonprofit organisations in society.Centre Academic Director: Dr. Gemma Donnelly-Cox

Major Education Initiatives
- Undergraduate education: the Centre provides a final year undergraduate elective ‘Managing Nonprofit Organisations’ to students taking the University’s undergraduate programme in Business, Economics, and Social Studies.
- Postgraduate education: the Centre hosts postgraduate research students pursuing M.Litt. and PhD. level work in the postgraduate Research programme of the School of Business.
- Executive Education: the Centre runs uncertified Executive Education programmes that are designed to integrate the development of individual and organisational performance.
Major Research Projects
- The Irish Nonprofit Sector Mapping Project: the Centre is carrying out the first mapping of Irish Nonprofit Sector Organisations. Results will be published in June 2006.
- The County Identity Project: this research project examines the relationship between nonprofit organisations and their task environment relative to the individual and individual identification with locale in that task environment. Publication of results is ongoing.
- The Theory and Practice Project: this research project explores the challenges and processes of modelling for nonprofit management against criteria of theoretical sufficiency, managerial utility and pedagogic capacity. Publication of results is ongoing.
