About the Center
The aim of the Nancy Bell Evans Center on Nonprofits & Philanthropy is to enhance the understanding and vitality of the nonprofit sector through research, education, and community engagement. The Center was established in 2004 in honor of Nancy Bell Evans, a former first lady of Washington who has been an active volunteer and a leader in supporting charitable causes in the Pacific Northwest for many years. Professor and Associate Dean Steven Rathgeb Smith directs the Center. His publications include "Nonprofits for Hire" and "Public Policy for Democracy". Professor Smith is the former editor of the "Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly", the journal of the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action (ARNOVA).
