About the Center

The Centre for Nonprofit-Management (npm) is an independent research, consulting and training organisation, specialised on shaping and enhancing German and European Civil Society. Founded in 2004, its mission is to improve interdisciplinary links between research and practice in order to contribute to the development of managerial capacity and organisational leadership in non-profit organisations.

The Centre offers the first German University Master’s course in “Nonprofit-management and governance”. It also carries out research projects, surveys and evaluations, for example on the field of foundations or welfare associations in a city or region. Through this, the Centre is actively contributing to the research enhancement in the Third Sector. For this purpose, the Centre is collaborating with ministries, universities, research organisations and business companies throughout Germany.

The Centre is situated in immediate vicinity to Münster University, and is organised as a charitable limited company. It is recognised as a tax exempt charity for pursuing purposes of research by the German tax authorities. Members have a political science, business studies, sociology, psychology and/or urban planning background.

Managing Director: Prof. Dr. Annette Zimmer, Dr. Michael Vilain
Secretary: Markus Behr
