THEO SCHUYT 


Prof. Theo N.M. Schuyt Ph.D: holds since 2001 the chair “Philanthropic Studies” at VU University Amsterdam; he is founder of the “Giving in the Netherlands” research project (www.giving.nl),   director of  the “Giving Europe” research project and Chair of the European Research Network on Philanthropy (ERNOP) (www.ernop.eu). Theo and his team at VU University Amsterdam launched ERNOP in 2007 -- an association of philanthropy researchers in Europe in order to advance, coordinate and promote excellence in philanthropic research in Europe. Since November 2014 he also holds the extraordinary chair “Philanthropy and Social Innovation” at the School of Business and Economics of Maastricht University. 

Theo served as a member of the 2016 Conference Academic Committee and his University, VU University in Amsterdam, will host and organize the 2018 ISTR International Conference. Theo began participating in ISTR conference is 2002 in Cape Town, South Africa.

Theo's major fields of research include philanthropy (among others the development of the “Philanthropy Scale”), welfare state, social policy, foundations, corporate social responsibility, entrepreneurial philanthropy.
