The International Society for Third Sector Research provides its members with information on the latest developments in Third Sector Studies, access to the larger community of third sector scholars, researchers and practitioners, and opportunities for professional development and public outreach.  Join one of the most respected scholarly research associations and become part of a community building a foundation of knowledge about civil society, philanthropy and the non-profit sector around the world.

  • Subscription to VOLUNTASthe official journal of ISTR, which is an interdisciplinary journal that provides a central forum for worldwide research in the area between the state, market, and household sectors. The journal combines full-length articles with shorter research notes (reflecting the latest developments in the field) and book reviews. The journal is published six times per year. 
  • Inside ISTR, our newsletter that focuses on Third Sector developments, activities, research in progress and recent publications. Members can log-in to the Members Only section of the website and read the latest issue.

Memberships are on a calendar basis January 1 to December 31.  As our international conference is on a two year cycle, membership is also on a two year cycle, 2018/2019.

ISTR has the following member categories. Please note that we offer the option to auto-renew your membership dues, for each of the members categories below.

Individual Sponsors                    

Supports ISTR's efforts to promote international membership; help subsidize reduced memberships


Individual Supporting                

For individuals who generously provide financial support to the mission of the association through dues
