VSSN Day Seminar, Manchester, 28th November 2013

We are pleased to let you know that the next VSSN Day Seminar will take place in Manchester on 28th November 2013: 10.30 - 4.00. Please put the date in your diary now! Bookings will open once the programme is finalised, but submissions of abstracts are invited now.

The seminar is hosted by Greater Manchester Council for Voluntary Organisation.

Submitting an abstract

If you would like to propose a paper for the day, please submit an abstract of around 250 words and a brief biography by email to Susanne Martikke, no later than Monday 5th August.

PLEASE DO NOT HIT THE 'REPLY' BUTTON to this message or you will be replying to everyone on this VSSN list.  Please note that, if selected, your abstract will be posted on VSSN website.

For any other queries, or if you wish to discuss a proposed paper's suitability, please email Susanne Martikke or Rob Macmillan

We welcome presentations from researchers, academics, doctoral students and practitioners in voluntary organisations (including infrastructure bodies and foundations) who are doing research in areas relevant to the voluntary sector or civil society in the UK. In light of the challenging external environment voluntary sector organisations find themselves in, we would particularly like to receive papers which consider issues around sustainable communities, community development and the social economy.

However we will also be pleased to consider papers from a theoretical, methodological, practice or policy perspective on areas such as participation, volunteering, philanthropy and giving, organisational issues, public policy, funding cuts, co-production or social enterprise.

Your abstract should contain a question, problem or dilemma arising from practice, theory or earlier research findings.  Papers are usually based on completed or on-going research (qualitative or quantitative) or a review of the evidence or literature in an area of interest to voluntary sector researchers.

Attending the event

VSSN aims to promote an understanding of the UK voluntary sector through research. The event is aimed at researchers, academics, doctoral students and practitioners in voluntary organisations or foundations interested in the UK voluntary sector. We also welcome policy makers engaged in the voluntary sector. We are always pleased to meet, and receive contributions from, colleagues from similar settings in other countries who are involved in the field. The working language is English.

Booking will open once the programme is finalised.
