Africa Network Meeting held during Dublin Conference

ISTR has over the last few years been involved in a series of initiatives to establish a network of scholars dedicated to researching the Third Sector in Africa. African scholars who attended the ISTR conference in Dublin, Ireland, once again met to assess progress towards the establishment of this network. It was reported that earlier initiatives to hold a continental conference on the Third Sector in Mauritius collapsed in particular because of the failure to generate adequate funding. The meeting mandated African board members, Alan Fowler and Adam Habib, to urgently find donors and/or hosts on the African continent who would convene a meeting of scholars presently involved in researching the Third Sector. It was also decided that this colloquim would assess the state of research on the Third Sector on the continent and discuss the infrastructure and operations for the establishment of an African arm for the International Research fund on civil society.
