CALL FOR ABSTRACTS/ PAPERS AND INTENTION TO PARTICIPATE
Building on previous conferences, Tokyo in 2009 and Solo- Surakarta Indonesia, in 2011 the honor of hosting the 3rd biannual Child Friendly Cities Asia Pacific Conference has been given to Nepal. The 3nd Child Friendly Asia Pacific International conference, will be hosted by the Nepal School of Social Work (NSSW) and ENGAGE in Kathmandu, Nepal on June 27th, 28th, 29th, 2013. The Nepal School of Social Work and Engage are committed to advance the understanding of state-of-the-art thinking and practice of innovations in building Child Friendly Cities discourse, research and policy influence in the region.
In 1996 the Child Friendly Cities Initiative was launched to act on the resolution passed during the second UN Conference on Human Settlements (Habitat II). The Conference declared that the well-being of children is the ultimate indicator of a healthy habitat, a democratic society and good governance. CFC is a global approach that brings key concepts and principles of Convention on the Rights of Children into practice, stressing the overarching scope of governance and decision making at large in supporting policies concerning the well being and support of children and their families. Moreover the conference will build on ongoing regional initiatives including efforts of SAARC nations through the South Asia Initiative to End Violence against Children, SAIVEC and other initiatives within ASEAN countries. In terms of regional child protection, ILO Convention no. 182 on the Worst Forms of Child Labor also offers an extremely important legal framework to reduce child labour children in the Asia Pacific Region.
